While inspecting a house I ran across several toilets in the house that cleared the bowl 3 to 4 times when flushed. This was an odd occurrence that caught my attention. When I noticed this at the first toilet I had concern that perhaps the toilet drain was not venting correctly and perhaps was siphoning empty; although, I thought that was far fetched I kept it in my mind as a possibility. Upon testing the remainder of the toilets it became apparent that the real problem was that each of the toilets were a low flush toilets and had been modified with a new stand pipe making the tank hold a greater usable volume of water. Since the toilet clears early in the flush cycle this is a massive waste of water. Not something I run into every day and thought it was interesting enough to share.
