Metal tie made from a corrosion resistant material such as galvanized stee or stainless steel secured to the structure of the building and embedded in masonry veneer. In our area ties are normally fabricated with a 22-gage x 7/8″ corrugated steel strap nailed to the structure with a minimum of an 8d common nail and laid into the masonry mortar joints as the brick is laid. In our area IRC requires they be installed at a maximum of 24 inches on center vertically and 32 inches on center horizontally in the field of the brick with tighter requirements at brick openings. (note: the brick tie in the featured photograph is upside down)
