Soffit

Area at the underside of the roof overhang between the facia board and the wall of the structure. Structures without roof overhangs have no soffits.

Solenoid

A relay that is activated by a lower voltage power source to connect a higher voltage and power to a load. An example is the contactor in and air conditioning system that is operated by about 24 volts to connect 240 volts to a compressor.
